The Academy of Model Aeronautics allocates a portion of AMA dues money to FAI activities such as the F5J World Championship. As well as the factor of national pride, the academy's investment helps to ensure that the United States is in the forefront of technical progress which is the natural result of international competition.
The awarding and supervision of international competitions is one of the main tasks of the FÉDÉRATION AÉRONAUTIQUE INTERNATIONALE. The rules - the Sporting Codes - drawn up by the Air Sport Commissions are used by national members to organise numerous competitions each year. World championships for each sport and discipline are generally held every two years.
